Northern Lights Klondike 

January 24-26, 2025

 

We have been to Medieval Times, went back to the Stone Age, have conquered the limits of Outerspace, and explored the Depths of the Sea!

Now Klondike will go to The Tropics!!! 

 

Your Troop can pick a skill and/or fun tropical related event to host! Please contact Jim McGuire, with your event details and for your campsite selection - first come, first served! Must be done before registering for event!

 

WHAT?  Troop 6 and Troop 600 proudly presents “Klondike GOES TROPICAL” at Citta Scout Reservation on January 24-26, 2025.  Scouts will move around to stations run by their leaders, so all scouts can participate. Locations of events will be by compass directions and distance. We would like all Troops to have a decorated Tropics Themed sled. Each Troop hopefully will run a station based on scout skills and fun, with a Tropical twist. We will assemble on the parade field Saturday morning at 8:30 am. Events will begin at 9:00 am and go until 4:00 pm, with an hour for lunch at noon. All troops will reassemble on the parade field at 4pm for the ballista toss on the Parade Field. (Bring 3-6 dozen raw eggs).  Must be catapult design, not sling shot. The Troops will have until 4:30 to build their ballistas. The toss will begin at 4:30. Sites and events will be on a first call basis. Please call Jim McGuire Scoutmaster Troop 6 at 908-783-7193.  There will be a Dutch oven dessert contest with entry due to Kewe at 6:30 pm. Yes, winner gets a nice prize. 8:00 pm will be a campfire with skits, songs and ribbons for the event winners.

Cowboy Action Shooting will open at 5:00 and 6:00pm for additional $5.00 per person. We can accommodate 30 adults and youth per session, 14 and above. Sign up will be at Friday night leader's meeting. Please make check payable to Jersey Shore Council.

Check In Time: Starts at 6:00p.m. Friday January 26th in the Kewe Campsite Pavilion
Cost: 

  • Unit  Fee = $20 per unit
  • Adults = $5 per Leader
  • Scouts BSA / Venturing/ Ships = $15 per Scout
  • Extra Patches = $3 per patch
  • Extra: Cowboy Action Shooting (ages 14 plus) - $5 per scout.  Signup at Friday Leaders meeting Open to first 30 adults and youth per session. (Make checks payable to Jersey Shore Council)
  • Late Fee (after January 20, 2024) = $5 per person

Friday January 24th 

You can begin to set up camp after 4pm. Please check in at Kewe after 5:30pm. Bring roster (can be downloaded below) and any final payments to check in. 

There will be a Leader and SPL meeting at 9pm at Kewe on Friday.

Saturday January 25th

8:30am Parade field for opening

9:00am Event begins

4:00-4:30pm build your ballista on Parade Field

4:30-5:00pm Ballista Launch (raw eggs)

6:30pm Enter Dutch Oven dessert competition

8:00pm Campfire and awards

 

Event will be judged on Patrol leadership, Participation, Ingenuity to solve tasks and Actual skill completion!

Directions for the event will be by compass barings and distance- so be sure to brush up on your compass and orienteering skills!!
