Registration Fee Structure

Dear Jersey Shore Council Scouting Family,
You may be aware that the Executive Committee of the National Council, Boy Scouts of America voted to increase the National Council annual registration fee for all youth and adults. Effective August 1, 2021 the new National Council registration fees are as follows:
- $72 for youth members in Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturing & Sea Scouts
- $45 for youth members in Exploring and all Adult Volunteers
- $75 for Unit Charter Renewal Fees
- $25 a one-time “New Youth Application Fee”
Please note these fees are sent directly to National BSA Headquarters and are not used to support local programs. To give our Scout Units adequate time to budget for fee increases and to communicate them to your families, the Jersey Shore Council Executive Board appointed a task force comprised of unit and district level volunteers to meet throughout the summer to review and determine an appropriate Council Service Fee for the 2022 Fiscal Year & (to be paid during the Fall 2021 Recharter cycle) and beyond.
That committee presented its findings to our Executive Board in late July. Our Council has always endeavored to keep fees as low as possible. The Council Program Fee instituted in 2017 has primarily constituted “pass through” costs (e.g. insurance premiums,) alleviated fees previously charged to scouts & leaders (e.g. leadership training fees,) or spent on specific Capital projects at Citta Scout Reservation. At the time, the Board promised it would not increase the Program Fee for at least two years, and it has kept that promise. There was a fee increase in 2020 due to rising insurance costs, however those funds went directly to our insurance providers, and did not support direct unit programming.
In an effort to bring our fees in line with National BSA guidelines, the Council Executive Board (upon the recommendation of the volunteer task force) has voted to increase the Council Fee over the next three years as follows for all Cubs, Scouts BSA, Venturers and Sea Scouts:
- 2022 (collected Fall of 2021) – increase from $54.00 to $60.00
- 2023 (collected Fall of 2022) – increase from $60.00 to $66.00
- 2024 (collected Fall of 2023) – increase from $66.00 to $75.00*
*Assumes the National Registration Fee remains at $75.00. The committee will reassess in 2023.
Your local unit also may charge additional fees to cover local Pack/Troop etc. costs.
It was strongly felt by both the task force and the Board that the fee should be phased in over time, to have the least possible impact upon our Scouting families.
